Dark circles are a very common problem especially in today’s hectic life. Both men and women can have dark circles as the skin under eyes is the softest, thin and the most delicate part of the body. The healthy eyes look beautiful regardless of their size and shape. Some of the major reasons behind dark discoloration of the skin under the eye are heredity, allergies, menopause, some medications, dry skin, nasal congestion, aging, exposure to sun, and lack of sleep, working for long hours in front of computer, prolonged crying, mental or physical stress and unhealthy diet. Though dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but they make you look exhausted, tired, aged and also affects your self esteem. Here are some very handy home remedies to get rid of those unsightly shadows under your eyes. Follow these simple tips regularly at least for 4-6 weeks to see the visible results.
1. Almond / vitamin E oil:
Almond oil is one of the best and proved natural ingredients which is very useful in treating dark circles. Before going bed take some almond oil and massage gently over the dark circle. Gentle massaging improves the blood circulation around the eyes and rejuvenate and absorbs moisture. Leave it overnight. Next morning wash your face. You will definitely notice the visible changes in few weeks after regular usage of almond / vitamin E oil.
2. Coconut oil:
Coconut oil is an effective natural remedy to lighten the dark circles. It also has moisturizing quality which gives smooth, supple, nourished skin. It also prevents wrinkles and fine lines under eyes. Massage some (extra-virgin) coconut oils on the under eye area. Leave it for few minutes and then wash it off. Repeat 2-3 times daily till you get the desired result.
3. Cold Compress:
The blood vessels under your eyes are closer to skin and if they get dilated result into dark circles. So to shrink them apply a cold compress method to the area. Cold compress constricts the under eyes blood vessels and helps to reduce under eye puffiness and dark circles effectively. Just soak a washcloth in cold water or cold milk. Put it over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. Wash your face. For cold compress you can also use cold spoons or can wrap few ice cubes in a soft napkin and place this under eyes for few minutes.
4. Raw potato:
Potato has a natural bleaching agents which effectively helps to lighten dark circles and under eye puffiness. Take 2 thick slices (preferable chilled) of potato, place them over the affected area. Alternatively you can grate one potato to extract its juice. Dip a cotton ball in this juice and apply the juice under your eyes. Keep it for few minutes and then wash it off. You can also use potatoes all over your face for treating the skin blemishes. You can also add some cucumber juice to potato juice and use it on the dark circles for maximum result.
Due to its bleaching ingredients tomato (paste) is one of the most effective home remedies for dark circles. Mix one teaspoon of tomato juice with half teaspoon of lemon juice. Gently apply this mixture over the affected area. Keep it for 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off. Follow this remedy twice a day for few weeks to see the fantastic visible results. You can add some lemon juice, pinch of turmeric and a pinch of gram floor to maximize the effect. Also you can make a healthy drink by taking mixing 2 tomatoes, some mint leaves, lemon juice and a salt. Grind these in a mixture to get a fine paste. Take this juice immediately after making it. Drink it in morning before breakfast for about a week to cleanse your body internally. You will be amazed to see the glowing skin.
6. Lemon juice:
Vitamin C present in the lemon helps to remove the dark circles under eyes. Simply take some lemon juice and directly apply carefully under your eyes. Leave it for 10-15 minutes then wash it off thoroughly. Repeat this daily for few weeks. Please note if lemon juice causes burning sensation then discontinue its use. You can also add equal quantity of honey to the lime juice and apply under eyes. Also you can use lemon juice with a pinch of turmeric on the dark circles.
The mild astringent and skin lighting properties helps to naturally fix those nasty dark circles. You will also notice the refreshing and soothing effects leaving your eyes bright and clear. Cut fresh cucumber into thick slices, chill them in refrigerator for half an hour. Put these chilled slices over affected area for 10-15 minutes. Wash your face. Repeat twice a daily until you get the desired result. Alternatively you can also add some lemon juice in cucumber juice and apply this juice over dark circles. Leave it for 10 minutes then wash it off.
8. Tea Bags:
The anti-oxidants and caffeine, tannins present in tea are very useful in getting rid of dark circles. It is also useful to treat under eye puffiness as it shrinks the blood vessels and reduces fluid retention under eyes. Take 2 used black or green / chamomile tea bags. Chill those in refrigerator for about half an hour. Now place one tea bag over each eye and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Just be careful not to get the tea in your eyes. Remove the tea bags and wash your face. Repeat the procedure once/twice a day for few weeks.
9. Rose water:
Rose water has some amazing ingredients for skin care which rejuvenates and makes skin soothing and fresh looking. It also acts as a mild astringent which gives a toned skin. Soak two cotton eye pads in fresh rose water (prefer chilled rose water) for a minute. Keep these soaked pads on the eyelids for 10-15 minutes. Follow this remedy daily for few weeks.
10. Fresh mint leaves juice:
